It was four years ago this Summer that he plopped in the pool beside me and two of my friends. He said good afternoon ladies, I am David Murray and you are?
From day one he was confident, and witty, and we liked him. As time went by we all looked forward to seeing David at the pool and wondered what story he would have for us today! He and I became good friends, he also became friends with Mr. Shabby.
David had become a part of our lives, until last Friday, June 26th, 2021 when he lost his battle with skin cancer that had metastasized to his lungs. I thank you all for allowing me this time away from FB and wanted to share about my friend with all of you. He was a divorced man with 2 grown boys, he was 59 and had really had some hard knocks in his life, one of the reasons why my heart went out to him and it was so easy for me to befriend him as I did.
I feel like I am one of those people who reach out to pick up those in need, yes even strangers, it use to be what I thought was a curse, but realized it was a gift from God for me… David was a friend, he shared his life, his hardships, and his fame as a sports News Anchor in Jacksonville Florida, for years before moving back home to Alabama. A move he regretted but, learned to live with. I’m sharing this because he was a part of me Mr. Shabby and so many at the YMCA for several years, and we all grew to love him as a friend. I can hardly go to the pool and relax right now because I see him there in his yellow swim trunks, his little corner of the pool he called his, saying Deb, come on, you’ll get in. While life had dealt him what seemed to be a rotten hand so often he continued to do the best he could. David, I miss you, we all miss you. You were a ray of sunshine truly. You made me laugh, cry, and mad at times with your sarcasm, but that was just your way of being funny. lol, Rest in Peace my friend until we meet again.
I am so sorry for the loss of your good friend. But always remember all the memories that were made to cherish. Until you meet again.
Much love and prayers.
Debbie, RIP David Murray! So sorry for the loss of your precious friend! May God give you and your husband comfort and peace! Sending love and hugs!
I’m very sorry to hear of your friend. This story hits home because I, too, had melanoma in 2018. So many don’t realize that melanoma can and will take your life if not treated. It is VERY aggressive. Mine was found accidentally when I went to have a cyst checked out that just kept coming back. Now I know why…the Lord did that as a sign that I needed to seek care. Thankful he did. I was fine until 2020 when they found Basel cell cancer. (Not as aggressive, but still needs treated) My full body scan/check up yesterday was clear. (Thank you, God.)
My condolences and prayers for you. May the Lord give you strength as you morn the loss of your dear friend. Sending hugs.
Renee, thank you my FB friend
