How many of you think back today’s gone by to being say 10 years old? I certainly do not very often. But I will admit when I’m around my grandchildren, especially the youngest ones and I watch them play especially on a beautiful spring day. I think on how simple the times were when I was growing up, they were absolutely some of the best times in my life. I know that each and everyone of you can identify with those times. We didn’t have like the children do today we had to make our own entertainment build our own swings out of old tires and. wood and rope that we found in the barn or the neighbor had in their garage. We made things from old tires and wood and anything we could find.. We really spent half the day or longer making the things Enjoy and only had maybe an hour or two of daylight left before it was time to go in for the evening. But, oh how we longed for the next day, hoping that it wouldn’t rain so we could get out there and enjoy and play on the very thing that took us a whole day to build. Do you remember those times do you remember making some out of nothing oh my goodness I’m not sure if kids could actually do that. But I bet if you took them out on the farm for a couple of days and turned them loose, we would find that they still have amazing imaginations even today with all this technology take it away from them and they start using their minds. in the late 60s tree houses were the big thing in our neighborhood. We had the biggest best treehouse and we enjoyed every minute of building it there were Six of us and it took us a couple of weeks we rounded up every stick of wood, every nail board plywood pieces, and anything that we could find that would make our treehouse special. Seeing this photo today of this homemade swing with the rope sparked my memory that we had one of these in our backyard that looked identical. I spent hours on that swing from the age of 10 until the age of about 16, just thinking about my day. With each generation things change, but I wouldn’t change the generation I was privileged to grow up in for anything. I know you feel the same the everything that I went through, everything that I learned as a child doing it myself has made me the strong woman that I am today. God knows exactly when each one of us need to be born and to watch generation in time was our time. He’s simply amazing isn’t he?
I hope you guys have a wonderful Wednesday. See you again soon right here on the blog.
Lovely memories 💕
I grew up when it was safe to walk or ride our bicycles and also roller skate on the sidewalks. We had to use our imagination during those times, too.
I still live in a small town where the kiddos can play out in front yards. Though they don’t go too far from their homes.
I have some fond memories of my childhood.😊
Oh…I remember those days!!! Riding bikes til dark..roller skating up and down the sidewalk in front of the school..rounding up all the neighborhood kids for a game of softball..walking to the candy store where we could get a bag of full of candy for a quarter..those were the days, my friend❣
Memories come flooding back more as I get older! Never had a treehouse though! We played in the woods often. I am thankful to have grown up in the 50’s and 60’s! Thank you for sharing some of your memories today. God is so good. All the time!
Some of the best of times, in our rear view mirror, and forever on our hearts
Your swing sounds lovely, Debbie! I don’t remember building anything but we did make “forts” in the wooded areas by our house. We would spend all day sweeping dirt to make “rooms” and separating them with branches. When I was a little older we always seemed to have a summer project – making potholders, starting a library, spending every day playing board games at the picnic table and even working up a show with all the neighborhood kids in our garage. All the parents came and clapped! LOL! Great memories…. thanks for taking me back. We were blessed. ❤
As I said it was some of the best of times. Yea, the board games such fun simple fun!
I miss those carefree days of growing up in our small town.
Yes, so many today will never get to experience that. Sad, really but each generation changes.
Oh how I remember the old and great days. My sisters were older than me so I played alone. They loved to get me in trouble so I didn’t mind being alone.
The land around us was red clay and there were big and deep gullies. I pretended it was where the Indians lived and would gather things for plates and food.
I used to roam in the woods a lot. I don’t remember seeing a snake so I had the best times.
I absolutely love to watch my grandson play with his toys and learn new things. My granddaughter is older and interested in electronics and drawing. They will never know what fun times they missed.
I am so happy to see you back my sweet and dear friend. 🙏🏻🫶
I loved what you wrote. You put me right there with you! Thank Hank you, for sharing that ♥️
Debbie those were definitely some of my good old days. I have to add this part.
We moved to Jacksonville NC when I was in the middle of the 5th grade. We had the best friends you could ever have imagined at the church. Things weren’t dangerous then like they are now. I would get out and walk to my friend’s homes and we would talk and have fun. It didn’t matter how far they lived we could walk and be safe. I’m still in touch with those friends through facebook and that was one of the best places I lived.
